ElCap Report 6/19/12

ElCap Report 6/19/12

By Tom Evans

Yo.. Nicer today with cooler temperatures and breezes. The action is heating up on the Trades and some of the less done routes. I have a climber I need to get some assistance for before night so I will make this quick.

Today’s ElCap Report …written just for you…unique in all the world!

Zodiac: The Austrian Peter Rauscher is finishing the route as I type these lines. I just learned that he is the Peter of Peter and Martina, who I have known for several years as they often come to climb here. Anyway it is his first solo and he has done a good job of it. The climbers who have passed him tell me that he is a good guy and has a great sense of humor.

1)  Peter leading above Peanut Ledge this morning.

Lower down a Korean team of two spent most of the morning in their ledge at the top of the second pitch and came down early in the afternoon. I speak no Korean and they no English so I don’t know what is up with them.

2)  Lounging on the ledge late in the morning.

Shortest Straw: Today is Mark Hudon’s day to lead and the little fella is getting them done in good style. They were climbing into the White Circle as I departed this afternoon.

3)  Mark leading the scary 5th pitch on the Straw, as Cheyne gives me the eye.

Mescalito: The three man team stayed on the Bismarck Ledge last night and climbed off it this morning. They are moving along but might be just a bit too low to get off today.

6)  Dan leading off the Bow in early afternoon.

New Dawn: Adam and Jordan reblasted this morning after solving their hauling equipment problem.

Nose: Several teams climbed off Sickle ledge this morning and demonstrated how to aid climb 5.8 and 5.9 free pitches for most of the afternoon. Three teams are bumper to bumper as I type these lines. It wasn’t a pretty sight… but up is up you know!
