ElCap Report 6/07/10

Yo… Oh My!! Such fine days now…. such a high river now… such nice shots now!! The crowds departed and we have the place to ourselves now. The Bridge was quiet most of the day, a welcomed relief for this writer.

High clouds drifted across a cobalt blue sky, in an endless procession, all day long. I have a lot to report and pictures to work so I will get right to it.

Yo… Fabulous day here in Yosemite. The river is way, way up now and my tent is about to be flooded out in North Pines. I hope it goes down soon! Water is up to the wood at the EC Bridge and there is a lake in the EC meadow. The mosquitoes are very bad this year and they are somehow very stealthy, so every day when I am through shooting I have a slew of new bites on me. This was “free weekend” here , so no fees to get into the park…. So…. the place was over run with Tourons this weekend. I was so busy that I couldn’t do justice to my photography and got a lot of shitty images today. Kenny Yager lead a Climbing History Tram Tour today and had 25 people on the Green Dragon with him. They all had a good time and spent time at the bridge looking at the climbers. Everyone was on their best behavior, until they left of course!!  Today’s report is brought to you by Oklahoma Tony and partner Clay who I spotted on a run up to Dolt. Tony has a pony tail and I mistook him for a woman, until someone pointed out those big guns he sports!!

Yo… Great day today. Sunny and warm. Why are you staying away? The SE Face is practically empty and so is the Nose. There is good action to watch but it would be a lot better if you were here to experience it with the Bridge Crew!  Dave Goodwin wrote about his accident on Mescalito on Supertopo.com in the ElCap Report for 6/04 so look it up and see what happened.

Yo… Nice here today with moderate temperatures and a high cloud deck, that made for nice shooting. It looks like good climbing weather for the foreseeable future. In case you didn’t read yesterdays report, we had an accident on Mescalito last evening. One of the three climbers became unattached from the rope, jugging, and fell 100ft onto the slab at the start of the last pitch. It was Dave Goodwin of the Steve, Eric, Dave team. He was able to get back on the line and jug out but soon thereafter reported back and internal pains. Fortunately, Steve is a Nurse and was able to give treatment and talk over the situation with YOSAR on his cell phone. Dave was flown off this morning and I hear from his wife and mother that he is doing well and they will be coming right out to monitor his treatment.

Yo… The fine weather continued today with some dark clouds building behind Half Dome, late in the day. Replacements are still needed, so Cubicle Pukes Unite!!!! Off to Yosemite with you all! Yo… Yep the weather is very cooperative these days. Not too hot and not too cold. A few high clouds in the afternoon. The Captain has informed me that the replacements are not coming in fast enough and I need to get a recruiting program going! So … Cubicle Pukes! Rise up from your cubicle’s and tell the boss you have a tax audit for the next few weeks and you will be unable to work, but expect to be paid, of course! Then come to Yosemite!! Ok? If not now, then when? It isn’t going to get much better for climbing than it is right now. Hello?!! Anyone there?!! I’m talking to you Puke!
