ElCap Report 9/23/11

ElCap Report 9/23/11
By Tom Evans

Yo… Not a lot going on up on the Captain today so the report will be kind of short.  Weather a bit on the warm side with some threatening clouds back up behind the Dome but nothing much down at the Cap.  Great entertainment at the Facelift tonight… so …. Here we go.

Today’s ElCap Report…written just for you…. Unique in all the world!

Zodiac:  The two man team of Adrian and Thor climbed the first pitches throughout the day.  It looked warm up there with little to no breezes to relieve the heat.
1)  Adrian and Thor on the second pitch of Zodiac.

Continental Drift:  The Show rolls along.  They were about to depart the black rock of the NA for the golden rock of the AO.  Neil did the leading this afternoon and had just about finished when I left around 3pm.
2)  Neil leading above the Show.

3)  Neil out looking for the good stuff.

Mescalito:  Regan hauled kit to the base today and is blasting later this evening.

New Dawn:  Brant and Steve climbed the long corners to Wino Tower this morning and were leading the pitch above when I departed.  They were there pretty early and may not bivy there but move higher.
4)  Arriving at Wino Tower.

5)  The pitch off Wino Tower.

Nose:  The French team was seen in the corners above Camp 6 this afternoon when I made the trek out west for a different angle on things.  They should top out by dark.
6)  French Nose team on the pitch above the Changing Corners.

7)  Leading to the Alcove.

Below them a team, of three, climbed from Sickle to ECT today and were seen fixing Texas Flake when I left.
8)  Speeding through the Stovelegs.

9)  The Texas Flake lean.

Shield:  The Russian team made Chickenhead Ledge a little past 10am and were last seen two pitches from the top around 3pm.  Looks like portaledges are not really necessary after all!
10)  Next stop, Chickenhead ledge.

10)  Final corner before topping out on the Shield.

Salathe:  I did see a team of two climb Hollow Flake and move right along to the top of the Ear.  They were on the pitch above the Ear when I departed.
11)  Hauling Kit to Hollow Flake Ledge.

In other news:  Slow Touron day at the Bridge but nice enough as quite a few climbers came and went.  Rumor has it that Tommy and Kevin are soon to materialize here in the Valley to continue their free attempts on the WEML.  Will keep you posted.
So that’s the way it is, for this Friday, the 23rd day of September, 2011.
Bye Bye,
Tom
