ElCap Report 6/12/12

By Tom Evans

Yo… warmer weather is prevailing these days. The breeze was lighter than usual today at the Bridge but appeared to be pretty stout in the Legs.

Not much climbing action on the cliff as we await the Bigs efforts on the Nose tomorrow and the next day and then on Sunday. Excitement building around that event, as it always does. The recent record setters on the distaff side are undecided about another run tomorrow and Quinn has to fly on Thursday… so… all you girls out there with the need for speed… the record is essentially the same number of hours and we need new blood to pull it down into single digits! Free beer to new record setters!!!!!

Today’s ElCap Report…written just for you…unique in all the world!

Zodiac: Solo Dave reached Peanut ledge and looks like he wants to spent some quality time camping out there. So he will most likely be getting off later in the day tomorrow, although he did fix one above the ledge as I was departing.

The Utah boys, Kevin and Elliot climbed the BT this morning and were headed to the Nipple this afternoon.

3)  First light caught Elliot leading into the Cricle.

Lost in America: Steve and Larry are moving along well as one would expect from such an experienced team.

First light on the route catches Steve at the belay.

Mescalito: Dan and John were seen fixing low on the route today.

Nose: The team of three from yesterday did show again and were dragging up the Stovelegs this afternoon. Another poorly dressed team to try to photograph in the late spring glair… I can’t wait!

I hear that a woman’s wall style team is working their way up the lower pitches to Sickle and will blast tomorrow.

I did see a sharp looking two man team on Sickle this morning but didn’t see them in the Legs later.

Scott Stowe, guide extraordinary, and client British climber Trevor are blasting in the afternoon tomorrow.

Salathe: I did see a two man party climb from Hollow flake to the start of the Ear while I was shooting… sharp dressers they were too! Rumor has it that they are Brian and Travis, who I talked to the other day. They are the only people on the route above Heart Ledge.

5)  Climbing the chimney above Hollow flake this morning.

In other news: It was jammed at the Bridge today with huge numbers of climbers hanging out talking shit and drinking anything available. Fortunately my old buddy Scott Lennox showed up with a 12 of Cobras as did several other folks. It was like a high school reunion, as tons of climbers down from EC routes, told it like it was for them. A fun time was had by all.

6)  Future Bridge Rat!

7)  Friends forever… Ally, Mason, and Brad hanging at the slack line yesterday.  They have all contracted the dreaded "Valley Plague" and are just trying to get well.

So that’s the way it is, for this Tuesday, the 12th day of June, 2012.

I’m out.

Tom
