ElCap Report 5/15/14

ElCap Report 5/15/14

By Tom Evans

Yo… Sunny and very warm here in the Valley.  The action on the great rock is presently confined to the Nose and Salathe routes.  The rock has no bird closures and is completely open to climbing.  I have procured a place to stay, outside of the park, which entails a fairly long drive to and from the valley.  I will be shooting climbers on ElCap daily from now until July.

However, I will reach the age of 70 in a month and have decided the time has come to drastically cut back on the time I spend doing the ElCap Report.  I need to take some time for myself and enjoy the pleasures of Yosemite, like I did before I undertook this project.  As a result I will no longer be posting daily reports and detailed explanations of happenings on the cliff.  From time to time I will post pictures I consider worthy, and perhaps do a write up of big events of the season.  I will continue to “keep an eye” on the teams I am shooting with a view toward their safety.

I want to thank all of you who have followed the Report over the years.  Special thanks go out to those who have made donations to help keep me going here.  My expenses have increased, due to the drive and lack employment at the Bridge, so any donations to the site would be greatly appreciated.  Like I said, I will still be here, shooting as before, and will be posting on this site from time to time, so be sure to check it out.

Over the years there have been many people who have helped me out, far too many to list here.  You know who you are and you have my deepest gratitude.

Many thanks to all… see you at the Bridge!

So that’s the way it is, on this 15th day of May, 2014.

Very truly, Capt. Tom
