ElCap Report 10/11/07

 By Tom Evans

Yo... Did get a look at the wall early and soon after the smoke came in so thick from the "control Burn" that it was impossible to see the Cap clearly... so I got the rest of the day off... so here is what I have ... brought to you by the heavy traffic on the ECBridge.... Today’s report, such as it is...

Surgeon General. Saw Ammon's bivy at the big ledge on Lunar Eclipse, so he made two pitches yesterday and has only a few to go to top out... tomorrow or maybe even today?

Zodiac: Saw Michael retreating from the white circle this morning with his sleeping bag and some rack... seems he left his stuff at the hanging belay at the start of the circle and came down... left his ropes fixed from 4 to the ground.. so who knows what is up with that... he will have to jug the first 4 and then lead the next 4 again to get back to his stuff... should be an interesting story...

.

Trip: Saw the two man team approaching the bolt ladders before the smoke closed in.

South Seas: Heard from my base walking spies that someone is fixing on the first two of this great route.. more as the story develops...

Mescalito: It is visually confirmed now that T2 has joined forces with the two man team that caught him two days ago... they were headed toward the Bismarck ramp the last time I saw them early this morning... T2 sends his love to his wife and daughter...

Nose: Saw two teams, including the defunct New Dawn team seem to join up at the great roof pitch... lower down some parties in the stovelegs.. couldn't see much...

Salathe: Did see Gerhart climbing above ECspire this morning and the green shirt team was a little below them..

Golden Gate: Caught a peek at this team getting up toward the big horizontal crack that cuts across the face... sad to be missing this great climb... I saw another party climbing off Wine tower and they seem to be doing fine... Didn't get down to the west side again as there were some other matters that came up this morning and the smoke would have made it a waste of time anyway... maybe Brenda can enlighten us on climbers over there...

So that is about it from here.... a nasty day of smoke and traffic so I bailed to the office to get caught up on some personal business... Other than the smoke the weather is fine. So that is the way it is on this the 11th day of October 2007, a day that may have just changed your life as it did some here in the valley... take care.... I'm out... Tom Evans
